AS IT WERE (moments in rock history): For the first time in his long career, Bob Dylan debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart with “Modern Times,” on Sept. 16, 2006. It was his first U.S. No. 1 album in 30 years, since “Desire” in 1976, and at age 65, he became the oldest artist to debut at No. 1.
